C’è una bellezza, che per me è soprattutto compostezza, che è difficile anche spiegare scrivendo. Perchè la vedi, la intercetti, la senti, ma fai fatica a mettere insieme poche, esaustive, parole. E’ fatta di tante cose, di tante sfumature. E complessità. Non nella accezione negativa del termine, complessità come ricchezza. Ecco, lei è una donna ricca. Se dovessi per forza darne una definizione direi di Barbara che è una donna ricca di tanta bellezza. Che innegabilmente traspare dai lineamenti del suo volto, ma va ben oltre le sue caratteristiche fisiche. Oggi affermato personaggio pubblico, make-up artist di molte celebrities, consulente d’immagine e volto legato alla televisione (conduce nel 2013 il programma “Pausa pranzo” in onda su Sky), inizia in realtà molto giovane a calcare le passerelle. Perché la moda è sempre stato il suo sogno, che è diventato realtà con una carriera di tutto rispetto. Poi la scelta, matura e ragionata, di passare dall’altra parte, nel backstage, da interprete della bellezza a creatrice di bellezza, consapevole che quello della modella è un lavoro che ha una breve e ben confinata stagione di vita. E non si può fare per sempre. L’amore per il trucco e la mano abituata, fin dagli esordi alla scuola di design, a narrare attraverso un tratto. Dalla carta al volto delle donne, un racconto di bellezza iniziato al seguito di un grande professionista come Rajan Tolomei, all’epoca responsabile della formazione italiana per Armani, e proseguito con successo. Una storia di bellezza quella di Barbara. Quella del suo volto, evidente. Quella interiore, che ci metti poco a scoprire. Quella dell’insieme, dell’unione, perché in due è tutto più facile. Quella dell’età adulta, che è consapevolezza e saggezza. E quella del dare, anche dare la vita, diventare mamma, che sprigiona una forza inarrestabile e sposta l’attenzione da noi stesse all’altro, ad atro, e ci riempie la vita. Lei è Barbara e ci parla di bellezza.
La bellezza è energia, interiore. “La mia non è un’idea di bellezza esplosiva, fatta di energia visiva. E’ una bellezza piuttosto interiore. Quando racconto la bellezza mi piace esaltare il fascino e le caratteristiche che le persone hanno all’interno più che all’esterno. Certo il filo conduttore è sempre quello della raffinatezza, dell’eleganza, della delicatezza perché comunque la bellezza è fondamentalmente energia. E’ un’energia che tu sposti, nel modo in cui ti muovi, nel modo in cui ti poni, ti vesti, ti trucchi. Nel modo in cui racconti di te. Nel mio modo di fare e creare bellezza, la bellezza deve essere necessariamente un raccontare sé stessi. Bellezza è la profondità dello sguardo, l’intensità che c’è in una donna, la gestualità, e con il make-up si può accompagnare questo, un volto lo puoi raccontare in questo modo. La bellezza è quella che si sprigiona dall’interno.”
La bellezza è insieme, e assume anche la forma di un progetto, un blog, realizzato con una cara amica . “La strada nel bosco (www.lastradanelbosco.com) è un progetto che vuole raccontare alle donne la bellezza in tutte le stagioni della vita. Ecco perché la strada nel bosco, una strada che attraverso il bosco racconta le stagioni della vita. La primavera, che è la parte della giovinezza. L’estate, la parte dell’essere donne. L’autunno, dove generalmente le donne iniziano a sentire che la loro bellezza sfiorisce, anche se in realtà proprio quella stagione è il pretesto per raccontare una bellezza diversa. Per poi arrivare all’inverno dove la bellezza passa anche attraverso la saggezza. Da questa idea è nato il mio blog, per sostenere tutte le donne nella mia visione di bellezza che non è solo quella estetica, quella relativa al mio lavoro, ma è anche la bellezza della vita, di poter vivere in un posto rilassante, di poter godere di un bel panorama, di poter gustare una deliziosa cena. Nasce per raccontare la mia visione di bellezza con uno stile fruibile, facile da comprendere. Perché in una città individualista e sempre di fretta come Milano mi piaceva l’idea di una sorta di dialogo con le mie lettrici in modo quasi amichevole, colloquiale. Un progetto fatto insieme a un’amica, non da sola! Perché la bellezza, per me, assume anche la forma dell’insieme. Un sodalizio, quello con Giada Macchi, che nasce da una forte amicizia che si è poi sviluppata nel tempo, e si è riversata anche nel blog dove tutte due, insieme seppur con competenze diverse, sviluppiamo questo progetto di bellezza.”
La bellezza è saggezza. “La bellezza per me è anche un processo di adattamento. Comunque tutti invecchiamo e gli anni passano inevitabilmente per tutti. Non sono una donna che ha molte difficoltà con l’invecchiamento perchè nella mia idea invecchiare non significa soltanto avere una ruga in più, ma è accumulare una saggezza che messa da parte diventa come un piccolo tesoro. Trovo per esempio che Virna Lisi sia una donna così affascinante, così bella nonostante la sua età e con il suo volto di donna matura sappia raccontare tutte le esperienze vissute nell’arco della sua vita. Non voglio dire di non essere a favore della chirurgia estetica però, dal mio punto di vista, se ne fa un uso troppo sfrenato e purtroppo si cade nell’errore di voler per forza a tutti i costi risultare giovani. Ma anche la chirurgia ha dei limiti e quando quei limiti vengono superati si smette di sembrare donne giovani e si appare piuttosto come donne mature che hanno erroneamente ecceduto con la chirurgia. Si perde la propria identità e si viene stravolte nell’insieme.”
La bellezza è nel dare. “Il bello è anche dare, potersi mettere a disposizione degli altri. Anzi, forse è la cosa più bella. Ho molto a cuore il tema della beneficenza che tratto anche nel blog. Abbiamo iniziato con il progetto Francesca Rava con l’intento di raccontare anche altri progetti e sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica. Perché la bellezza muta e la bellezza dell’apparire diventa la bellezza dell’essere, che passa attraverso il dare agli altri e il poter aiutare delle persone che non hanno le nostre stesse possibilità.”

BARBARA DEL SARTO IS BEAUTIFUL
There is a beauty which is difficult to describe in words and this is the beauty expressed and conveyed through poise, composure and mannerisms. This is the beauty that one sees, intercepts and feels, however it is still difficult to put this into words. It is composed of many things, such as nuances and complexities. The latter nevertheless, must not be seen as something negative since they enrich beauty. Oh, by the way, this is Barbara, a rich woman. If I had to define her I would certainly say that she is rich because she is particularly rich in beauty, I mean, she beautiful from different perspectives. Although her beauty shines through her regular features, it goes beyond her physical appearance. She is a successful public figure, the make-up artist of many celebrities, an image consultant and also a woman connected to the TV scene (in 2013 she hosts a television programme “Pausa Pranzo” –Lunch Break– broadcast by Sky channel). Apart from that, she starts walking down catwalks when she is still very young. Because fashion has always been her dream, her brilliant career in the field it was a dream come true. Nonetheless, after further reflection and deep meditation she makes the decision to be in the backstage. Basically she goes from being a performer of beauty to being the creator of it, since Barbara is well aware that a career as a model is pretty short. Her love for make-up as much as her talent for it are already apparent at the school of design where she shows her prowess as a make-up artist. As a matter of fact, through her brushstrokes she narrated stories of art and beauty. From paper to women visages. This is a story of beauty that Barbara goes through while mentored by a real professional, Rajan Tolomei, at that time in charge of the training in Italy for Armani’s make-up artists and then a very successful man. The story of Barbara is one of beauty in every sense since she is very beautiful indeed, inner or outer beauty regardless. Whoever would realise very quickly that she embodies wisdom, awareness and maturity. Furthermore, she personifies the beauty of a couple in love and as a result that of giving birth and becoming a mother. Barbara represents the beauty of giving and sharing in life. She unleashes strength and power in such a way that makes us shift our focus of attention, from being selfish and individualistic to being generous and altruistic. This is what Barbara is, the woman who tells us about beauty, but also the person who fills up our lives.
Beauty is inner energy.
“The idea I have of beauty, is not that of something necessarily aesthetically beautiful, rather it is more related to the inner beauty. When I tell about beauty I like extolling the charm as well as exalting the inner, rather than the outer, qualities and attributes that people have. Nevertheless, the overarching theme and concept is always that of refinement, elegance, fineness, niceness and pleasantness keeping in mind that fundamentally, beauty is positive energy. I mean, energy that spins and circulates according to the way we move, behave, dress, according to our attitude and approach and last but not least to the make-up we wear. Thus, this is how in everyday life, we give off energy and tell other people about ourselves. To me, create beauty means to be able to tell about ourselves. Whereas beauty as such, to me is the penetrating look, the intensity and the gesticulation of a woman. Make-up allows to enhance or tell about beauty even though the real beauty is that profound and alluring “thing” that comes from within.”
Beauty means to be together, and turns into a joint project and then into a blog carried out and run with a good friend of mine.
“A path in the wood (www.lastradanelbosco.com) is a project that aims at telling women the beauty in the seasons of life. In this respect, Spring represents youth, Summer to be a woman, Autumn it is when women start feeling that their beauty is fading away and because of that this season has become the pretext for telling a different beauty. Then we get to winter, a season in which beauty goes through wisdom and from this idea my blog was born to support all women who are part of my notion of beauty. What I’m trying to say once again, is that whenever I talk about beauty, I don’t talk about the aesthetic one. Rather about the beauty I find in my job and naturally, the beauty of life which is to live in a peaceful and relaxing place, to enjoy a wonderful panoramic view or a tasty meal. This web was born to tell about beauty and particularly about the notion I have of beauty. I purposely decided to make it simple and straightforward in order to make it accessible to a wider public. Because in a frantic, hectic and individualistic city like Milan, where interrelation and exchange among people is becoming scarce I quite liked the idea of a sort of informal and open dialogue with the readership. This is a project that I’ve launched with a friend of mine, not by myself! Because to me, beauty takes shape when people are somehow together. The partnership with Giada Macchi, was born from an intimate friendship that the two girls have cultivated over time and that subsequently have put into the blog. The two of them together, with different duties, run this beauty project.”
Beauty is wisdom.
“To me beauty, among other things, is also a process of adaptation. Years go by and inevitably we age. But when it comes to ageing I’m neither fussy nor uncomfortable at all. Possibly because the ageing process to me doesn’t mean only one more wrinkle in the skin, rather more wisdom in the soul. Thus, I see the phase of getting older as a valuable asset to people. Let’s take Virna Lisi (a celebrated Italian actress) for instance. I reckon she’s still extremely charming and beautiful considering her age (she was born in 1936) even though she hasn’t undergone any cosmetic surgery. Actually, because of that, her face on the one hand manifests clearly she is a mature woman and on the other hand it tells a story that couldn’t be able to otherwise. Now I don’t want to disappoint you, so please don’t hold it against me. I’m not against cosmetic surgery, I just think that women abuse the use of it simply because they want somehow, to look or feel young. Unfortunately, cosmetic surgery has its limits and when women go beyond them, they don’t look young anymore, actually they simply look like mature women that have exceeded the limits allowed in the cosmetic surgery. This is when they experience a loss of identity that turns them upside-down.”
Beauty is giving.
“Giving is beautiful too, and arguably, to be at others disposal is the most beautiful thing one can experience. Charity is an issue very close to my heart. That’s why I’ve decided to deal with it in the blog. We have started the blog with the project Francesca Rava with the aim of telling about other people too. It has focussed on sensitising the public opinion. Because beauty undergoes a process of change. Consequently that particular beauty, that of showing off and making an impression on people, turns into the beauty of being which is also the beauty of giving and sharing with others. This kind of beauty means to be altruistic as well as to reach out to those whose life hasn’t always been all roses.”
